I've had to go to a therapist before, for a sleep disorder, and I had the same reservations you did. I thought it would be extremely unpleasant and awkward, and I was under the impression that I would be evaluated and judged and asked difficult, prying questions. I honestly did not want to go at all...at ALL.
BUT, it wasn't bad!
In reality, good therapists are trained to deal with people that are anxious about seeing them. They are amicable and relaxed, and trained to immediately put you at ease, comfort you, and get you past the stigma you associate with mental health issues.
I know it's scary to go, but trust me, the reality is so much easier than you think it will be.
It seems to me that you are aware that you have some problems, and you admit that you need some help with them, and that's really good. I think you know that you need a change, and once you take the first step to make that happen, you'll feel so much better.
That's the rub with anxiety disorders...they make you anxious to go to a therapist, but trust me- these people are trained to make you feel at ease. It won't be as terrible as you think- in fact, it will feel amazing to have someone listen to you who understands your disorder, and it will feel like an accomplishment to take the first steps toward a happier life.
I know it's scary, but you can do it. I really hope you get the help that you need. Good luck.
