Should i report him?

Hey there Y'all.
I'm currently debating whether or not I should report this guy I met yesterday. So, basically, I was riding one of my horses on one of the more wooded in trails we have in the area, and this guy walks out of the woods on my right side. He looks like he's around my age, and the best way to describe his face is like Randall Culver from The Walking Dead, only he's wearing this blue and white striped shirt with a brown bomber jacket, black jeans, snowboots, and a red beanie. He smiles real big and says:

'' Hiya... ''

I just smile and get my horse walking faster so I can get away from this guy, I didn't like the vibes he was giving me. About halfway down the trail, I turn around to see if he's still there, and he is; just standing there, his face as blank as a slate. And then he starts running to catch up to me. HE'S FUCKING RUNNING. I panic but don't say anything. At this point he's walking next to my horse and I, and I can tell she's getting a little ansy, like she doesn't like him either.
He goes:

'' That's a pretty horse you got there ma'am. What kind is she? '' Thinking he's just high or something, I respond with

'' She's a Quarter Horse. ''

He smiles big again and pats her on her rump as she's walking '' I have a few of them. One of em' has a bum leg though. Would you take a look at it? I'd give you a ride.. My house is just a few miles down the road and- ''

I take off at a lope and don't look back until I get home.

I haven't gone back or called the police yet. I haven't seen the guy.
Should I call the police? Let me know what you think.
Thanks

You probably should call your local police department's non-emergency number and let them know what happened.

Always trust your gut in those situations! That's the best advice someone ever gave me. If you think the guy was a predator call police but call the dispatch line.

  • Hmm. It's weird. On the one hand it could be a socially awkward dude trying to socialize but on the other hand it could have darker intent. Probably report.

But he hasn’t done anything wrong so what do you expect the police to do?

I also think you should report it since you're in a country where that actually means something and might make a difference. If you were here in Brazil though, it wouldn't.

I guess it is said and dine now but I have a hard time believing the cops would take the call serious just because of a "Creepy vibe".

Plus if it happened yesterday, they are probably going to ask why you waited until the next day to call.

I'm with those who say you should talk to the cops about encounter. An unarmed guy on foot isn't very threatening to someone on a horse, but you should always go with your gut feeling. If the cops have any sense, they should pay attention too, even if you don't over-dramatise what happened and tell them weren't sure if you should report it.

I would report that. His behaviour is certainly suspicious, and while it would be nice to think people wouldn't fall for his obvious ruse...it would be awful for it to happen.

Was this on private property? Was he trespassing? I don't know, but I sure as shootin wouldn't get in a car with that dude. Hell, go ahead, and talk to the authorities, it couldn't hurt to do so.

  • Thank you all for your suggestions. I'm probably gonna call the police because, uh-y'know, don't want to take another chance.

That's very creepy. However I don't think you can report someone if they haven't done anything, you can't report someone for just being creepy.
I guess you can call the police and let them know about the guy though.

Call your local department and let them know what happened. It's not criminal, but I think it's suspicious enough for the police to note it down.

Did he say anything else to indicate that he actually did know what he was talking about, or didn't know what he was talking about? I would expect someone who owned a few horses to know quite a bit about them.

Report him. If he is dangerous then they may already know him and this report could lead to vigilance that saves someone's life. If they don't and he's totally harmless then they won't do anything. Nothing has been lost except the 5 minutes it took you to call.

I think if you see his ass again then yes, call the police.
But I won't worry about it.

So why not just tell the guy "Sorry I can't...I'm already late getting back home. See ya!" and just riding off?
If the guy was carrying a machete and covered in blood, then I would call the police.

It can't hurt to let the cops know there is a creeper loitering in the park, and harassing women.

  • No, the trail is open to the public, but he's definitely creepy. Sure as hell scared the shit out of my horse and I.

I freaking hate creepers! What kind of idiot would want to casually invite a stranger to take a ride in his car up to his place?
