This is tricky: she used to crush really hard on me in school, but I had a girlfriend and I couldn't care less about her, now I'm single, but I can't talk to her and break the ice. I moved to another town a few months ago and I'm going to a different school, and we weren't even friends as I ignored her completely.

You can try, but if she's smart enough to figure out you're only calling her because you're single, and not because you genuinely have feelings for her as she once did for you, then it's not going to end well; especially if you're using her feelings to your advantage.
I wouldn't put it like that: I'd say that I just think that I might like her. She's very pretty and nice to be around, so why not give her a chance?
I was taken when she made her move and she knew that. What worries me is that I'll have to talk to her through Whatsapp after that I totally ignored her in real life, if I could still see her every day it would be much easier, I'd just find an excuse to start a conversation with her to break the ice then I'd ask her out.
