I would say yes if it's a birthday and she's willing to pay for it.
Admittedly I like anime and Japanese culture, so I'm somewhat biased, but I believe many anime are infinitely better written - and deeper - than UK TV. Not all, mind.
Full Metal Alchemist raises many interesting questions on ethics and morals and is about the determination and courage of two brothers trying to find the Philosopher's Stone in order to bring their mother back.
Hetalia - while stereotyped and somewhat crude in language - teaches the viewer a lot about world history and (so I think) is very funny.
Many other series have romance, drama, humour, violence and/or represent daily life in Japan on some level.
If her hobby causes nobody any harm and makes her happy, then feel free to encourage it.
You could even try and encourage her to read manga (Many anime series are based on manga books and vice versa). However, DON'T force her.
I guess it might be a bit strange to find out a teenager likes what many consider to be cartoons, but there are many people who are older than her who enjoy anime and are otherwise well-functioning adults.
P.S. Apologies for the somewhat passionate rant. Wish your daughter a happy birthday for me.
Yes, there are LOTS of sensible and sane adults who like cartoons with plot and depth... aka most anime. :3
You (the OP) might like it too. Have you ever watched any of it with her? You'd have to start from episode one in most series to understand what's going on. It doesn't matter if you like action, or romance, or horror, there's an Anime out there that fits all genres. :D
