If it's that important to him and he has expressed to you this importance, then I guess it's worth considering. I'm assuming the two of you have discussed this, if not, do so before you two get married.
Otherwise, I would say nay. It's more of an insult to the Catholic church if you join just to say that you are a Catholic. Chances are good that if he is really only a Catholic in name and belief but not in practice, he probably does not give that big of a shit. You can be the biggest believer in the gospel that this world has ever seen but if you don't at least put effort into practicing it (even the more ritualistic aspects like church attendance and sacrament), then it can't be of that much importance to you. Don't put effort into joining a religion that you are uninterested in. It's a waste of your time and theirs, don't drop any eggs in baskets that you're not going to return to, cherie.
