Why would you feel obligated to tell them your sexual orientation? If you do decide to tell them and they start treating you different or bad then you know they are not good friends.

Yes. If they accept you that's good but if they don't oh well. They were never your real friends to begin with if that's the case.

If they were true friends, they would accept who you really are.

I really don't see the big need of "coming out" unless you are to introduce them to a same sexed partner , Only reason why my family knows that I can fuck girls too is because after some heated discussions where I defended gay rights I kinda just felt like throwing that in mums face. Then again, I live in a very gay-friendly country and things are very different depending on where you live. Around here you aren't even "Allowed" to dislike homosexuals and make noises about it.
