I did for a long time. I now see them as a part of the endeavor it took to get where I am and to where I am going. They are a part of me.
What bothers me is that sometimes strangers spontaneously touch my scars out of curiosity. I usually respond with, "oh, yes. By all means. Is there any other part of me you felt like groping?"
To answer your question, no they should not have to. However, if they choose to that is of nobodies concern.
