You can't thumb up your own comments. Although admittedly, the interface makes it look like you can. Also, I think the idea of starting on one thumb up is pretty logical because it implies one person agrees with your comment. One person does. It's you.
Good point, but it's kind of inevitable when you've only got one figure which is the balance of thumbs up and thumbs down. I don't know whether TheManagement would consider it but displaying both figures (the number of thumbs up and number of thumbs down) would show that at least people agree and disagree. The higher both numbers, the more contentious an issue is. Things could still be sorted according to the "balance" of these figures, as they are now.
