Defintely not normal. And please don't feel that you have to put up with being abused just because your mum had a bad childhood and now wants a happy family. Her happiness is not your responsibility.
If, God forbid, my husband did this to one of my children, I would be heartbroken if they felt they couldn't tell me for fear of making me unhappy. I would want to know so that I could protect them. I would never want them to suffer in silence.
If your mum is any kind of decent mum then she will care about your safety and wellbeing much more than she does about a facade of a perfect family.
