Sexual health beginning of relationship

It's an unsexy, vibe-killer. But how do you check sexual health is OK before starting a relationship?

Do you just go for it, assuming your partner would tell you if they had anything?
Do you demand to see results on paper before any hanky-panky?

What would you do if you had an STD?

  • That's about the most original and important question I've seen on this site in two years. I hope you get some good, to the point answers.

    • Yes I agree and I assume you did this when you were dating?

    • Did you ask your "wife" the same question? No offense intended, I'm just curious, because at your age you should give a better answer than you have. Unless you were desperate, again no offense intended.

  • I like to pull out a flashlight and do a close up inspection of the proposed drill site.

  • FUCK IT

    Ask questions later.

  • That's a good question. If I had an STD I would definitely tell the person before having any kind of sexual relations with them. However, not everyone is gonna be honest, and you can never know for sure if they're telling you the truth. It's best to start off by using protection at least until you figure out whether this is a trustworthy partner.

  • I've had a very suspicious partner ask me this before getting involved with me sexually. At first I was a bit surprised but got over it in about 20 seconds and then asked her for the same – then she was surprised! "Well, what's good for the goose is good for the gander."

We both got health checks and got down to having some sex after that.

  • You can always ask them but still use a condom, you can never be too careful. ; )

  • I believe that it is okay to ask your partner about their sexual health or whatever you want to call it. That is important information to know and it shouldn't be seen as an insult. If the person is mature they should be more than happy to tell you. Of course if I was to end up with an std I would take the necessary steps to take care of it.

  • Sensible, mature adults should be able to have a discussion about it. "Demanding" doesn't sound mature at all, btw.

    • I agree, it doesn't sound mature at all. But then again, if someone is looking for maturity they should probably stop typing www.isitnormal into the search bar

      • Silly me. People who are in sexual relationships shouldn't be mature. I don't know how I got so confused.
