It's true that _most_ STIs are curable these days, but one of my firm principles is that systemic antibiotics should be avoided as much as possible. They are capable of performing what would be considered miracle cures in past times, but they can have long-term effects on your gut flora and immune system that scientists are still trying to figure out.

I'm not interested in sex unless it involves tongue kissing, oral sex and unprotected PIV sex, and obviously every one of those things is a transmission route for STIs. I'd almost certainly keep my dick in my pants in such a situation, although I would be open to some manual messing around.

Personal rule adopted a decade or two ago: No sex with someone unless they have had a full panel STD test (Last one done was a 10 STD panel)... and they have been either not active sexually with another for at least the time limits for what is considered the minimum time for valid test results, or perhaps have been steady with another long term steady partner for the same appropriate time. Last time I did such testing it was 9 weeks for a 10 STD panel test (several years ago, although it would have been 6 weeks for 9 of those 10 tests - and the 10th one is rare). I get tested at the same time - and we share results. That 10 panel test does show the normal cold sore as an STD (which is interesting as over 95% of it is transmitted between parents/relatives/friends and children before age 15 just by normal skin contact); and that's the only acceptable one (and a lot of people have normal cold sores).

It keeps things clean that way...

Of course, that means no hook-ups, etc. That you actually have to know someone for at least some time... and are willing to wait about a week after deciding to get tested to have sex. Actually, I typically know a lady and casual date for over a month before deciding to pursue sex (can we have fun and get along outside of the bars and bedroom first).

I've never had problems finding ladies who meet the time limits for testing either; and they like being sure as well.

Of course, testing is not 100% (typically 95%+); but, that's an acceptable risk to me and my partners.

They are way more common then people like to admit. There’s drugs that can be taken to control outbreaks. And obviously you don’t have intercourse during an outbreak. If she’s a normal person, she will be open and honest about it.
