Seriously girls

The post is the basis of a Creative Commons book project, which means I won't make any money from it and it won't be published by anyone but me, but it will be shared around the internet and hopefully be used as a teaching tool for some people, a point of self discovery for some, and a point of ridicule for others. I'm comfortable with all of that.

Either way, this whole thing is about starting a conversation and getting people thinking and engaging about these issues, which I think the post did, but I also wanted to highlight how ineffective the way we're currently communicating through internet is if everyone's sure they're correct and that everything they're saying is correct.

I don't disagree with any of the things I said on that post, those are my personal beliefs and if I had everything I've ever read and transcripts of every conversation I've ever had that fed what I think I know, I could site my sources, but at the this stage in humanity, we just don't have that, nor do I think we need it. Sometimes it's important to be able to believe someone's not an idiot just because we don't understand what they're saying and obviously, I have to work on that, too.

That's the point. We ALL need to change in some way and be open to learning about people that aren't like us. Being part of a dominant group might give one less impetus or incentive to do that, but if you DO believe everyone is equal, is it not worth making an effort?

I'm white, for instance, but I had to actively work and study and have conversations with people who weren't white about race and culture and politics to understand white privilege. It's real and to an extent, we can't change it in an immediate way, but we can make a conscious effort to be responsible for own actions and if more people could do that in an intentional way, we would be in better shape as a society.

I don't want to monopolize anyone's time any further, but I want to thank everyone who lent their time and energy to this project and I also want to apologize for not being able to tell you all what you were entering into. It just wouldn't have worked if I had done it any other way.

Consent is important and I don't want to violate anyone else's because I know how that feels and it's not a good feeling. It happened to me before I even knew that it was, it ruined my life for a long time, and I'm still picking up the pieces.

I'll leave the post up for a day or two, in case anyone wants to look at if for what it is, but I'm won't reply to anything further and my account here will be deleted by the end of the week.
