100 % normal, as a Afrikaans kid growing up in Africa I never really nailed the white English accent til I was in my late teens - and trust me listening to an Afrikaner speak English with a bad accent is like listening to someone who's IQ has just been halved
With becomes "Wif"
Think becomes "Fink"
That becomes "Dat"
The r becomes a sound like a motorbike speeding away.
I knew this one girl in Primary school (schooling from age 7 to 13), great looks, extremely intelligent and very articulate -until she spoke English
Thankfully English is an international language so we its practically all we heard 24-7 on our media, and most Afrikaners in good schools in the urban areas can speak well with ok sounding accents by the time they finish highschool, But when I was 5- say 15 speaking to English people was embarresing, my accent was bad and I woulrget the most basic words (Like doorlatch, and hell im not even sure I spelled that correctly)
Self Concious about my accent
