It's a small world after all. Lots of people have accents whether they like it or not and really it all depends on where you grew up and the language you speak. Definitely in America, if you have an accent (besides an english accent) you will be treated on a different tier (which is especially dumb because America is made up of so many cultures, its surprising that we are so oblivious other cultures).
It's normal to be self conscious about your accent, you are not the only one. But keep in mind that you have an ability to communicate with different cultures which in turn can actually benefit you!
