  • Its your retina retaining information from the last bit of light it received.
    It also reverses the color you see. For example if you stare at something green for a thirty seconds and look away at something white, it will look red.

    When you wake up and the world seems mis-colored for a few minutes, its just from inactivity of gathering light into your eye.
