School mums driving on our grass

We live in a narrow lane near a school. When it gets busy, the mums will run their wheels over our lawn rather than wait for a gap in the traffic. They make a hell of a mess of it. I guess, to them, this is perfectly normal? But is it really ok for them to do this?

I've tried talking to the school. They just kind of shrug it off.

The world is full of inconsiderate dimwits who care only about their own convenience.

The first question is whether the land is actually yours. I understand in lots of places in the States, property owners are expected to maintain the verge of roads, but they don't actually own the land, so they're limited with what they can do with it. But since you refer to "mums", I assume you live in the UK and the land is indeed yours.

If that's the case, then I think you have two options: either suck it up and learn to accept the damage, or put something on your property along the side of the road which will discourage people from driving on it. Other responders have suggested a fence, but another option is to put a series of large rocks on your lawn. They don't have to be enormous, just big enough to obviously look like they'd do some damage if run over, and close enough together that they can't be driven between. The annoying thing about this is that you'll then have to strim around the rocks to keep your property looking neat, but I think this is one of those situations where there is no perfect solution.

That’s very inconsiderate, I can’t imagine doing that to someone’s lawn. Maybe put up a few picket signs and see if that helps.

Just stick a small fence on the edge of your property. Something cheap that will keep them off and no big deal if it gets run over.

very rude if it was me i would be putting a fence or cinder blocks as the end of the yard to prevent people from driving on my lawn

Put a fence up like whatintarnation said and also put small spike traps in your yard that are too small to see but big enough to puncture a tire (preferably close to said fence so you or anyone else who lives in your house won't accidentally step on it)

My dad had a similar problem with people going onto his driveway at the mountain house. There is a hotel about 700m from us, so there is traffic. So my dad put up 2 steel bollards and put warning tape on them to make them visible. In less than a week, they were scratched up. One car left half a bumper.

People are inconsiderate assholes. Reminds me of my neighbor back in my hometown. She had a dog and always took her dog for a shit in our garden in front of our apartment. Sometimes she'd park in front of our garage too, cause ours has shade. One day I took matters into my own hands. Parked my E420 in her garden, rear of my car facing her house... turned off the traction control and FLOORED IT!!!! 400hp of twin-turbo, redline, wheelspinning fury throwing up dirt, rocks, mud and grass at her house!

Made her garden look like a Baja 500 track! That learned her real quick not to let her dog shit in our garden, or park in front of my garage.

I firmly believe in treating people the way they treat you. Treat me well and we'll be best buds. Treat me like shit and I'll do the same.
