Scar randomly opening...

I've had a scar from a cut on the inside of my thigh for about four years now. This weekend I went on a vacation to Disney World (which involved a lot of walking and thus rubbing of thighs) and I noticed that the scar is starting to split open. When I first got the cut it was about 1/6 of an inch deep, and the new cut is not deep at all but I don't understand why it's doing this. It's itchy and irritating and seems to be getting worse. It's not bad enough and hasn't been long enough for me to want to see a doctor but I was wondering if this is normal.

Is It Normal?

  • i have a scar that did that...it wasn't there as long but can def happen from the walking and such. my doc simply had me wash with soap and water and then put a tiny bit of neosporin on some gauze and keep it dry. the gauze lets it breathe more than band aids, can be cut to fit and keeps it covered to avoid infection. if it starts to smell or seep any fluids you will need antibiotics asap to clear it up. mine was actually infected before i realized it but it cleared up pretty quick.

  • Hmmm tough one. I'd say from the scar bein on the inside Iod your leg and rubbing allday could have weakened the scar tissue, but if it's openeimg back up like it was when it happened I'd go to the doctors office pretty quick. The fact that it's itching could be a few reasons. Perhaps sweat, healing , or infection. If you see it getting red around the outside, notice puss or anything like it's doin the opposite of healing get in the hospital asap. Other than that if you don't wanna go, I would put peroxide or alchohol on it a few times a day and cover it in vasoline. If it's actually splitting open go get some sutures or butterfly bandaids and put some on there. While at home let it breathe it's good for it. If you notice it getting bigger you may have some clotting issues go to hospital fast. Lol. I hope I helped. Goodluck.
