For years, users who lasted longer than 3 months here became permanent captives. Many regulars have been here 8 to 12 years. Regardless of boredom, they could not bear to leave.
But many of these people are now gone. There are rumors that an “IIN” Refugee camp has formed somewhere on a Discord server. The question is, should I go looking for it?
People leave because let's be honest. Iin stays the same. I could leave for a year and come back and pretty much the same topics will be spun around.
I like the variety. I stick around because I love discussions. But if I had way more shit going on in my life IIN would be one of the activities I would cut to save time.
For lack of a better term, communities like this one are "abnormal" on today's internet. In actuality it is today's internet which is abnormal-- but that is neither here nor there. The point is, places like these ALWAYS spawn spinoff places-- I know, I've been on a couple others that actually sank and found a few of em some time later. Those spinoff communities though, they never last like the original body. It's got different rules, or the features suck, or they let in new people who don't get the vibe-- they always fail.
I mainly kill time on this site, tho there are a bunch of people on here I genuinely enjoy conversing with.
But if IIN is a refugee camp - I'm the dick doing donuts in the parking lot, thinking he's cool cause he got a RWD car.
I'm that friend that thinks drinking whiskey and talking about space programs and science makes you look sophisticated.
