I'm identical. If he stopped liking it half-way through I'd stop and never look back: but I love it when he loves it.
My guy loves it rough (but he's really cautious and gentle at the same time), and loves gagging, choking, slurps, swallowing and hard sucking so I just try my best. If it's becoming too much, take a breather, suck the tip or just kiss/lick til you catch your breath and pull yourself together.
