Is it normal that I find it so alarming that the vast majority of so-called "revenge porn" victims don't even know what it actually is?

Revenge porn is when you piss someone off to the point where they plaster your intimate photos/videos all over the internet without asking you first, in order to cause as much devastation as possible to you, usually for infidelity reasons but ALWAYS for some sort of REVENGE. The clue is in the name!

If you didn't do anything and your break up was for reasons other than infidelity, then fine. Still, if there are intimate photos/videos of you on the internet, that is just "amateur porn" so please don't refer to it as anything it isn't. Your partner was a fucking douche for uploading those photos/videos without your permission, and should go to jail accordingly, but you are classifying wrongly.

If however you cheated on your partner and they caught you red handed, fucking someone else, then you absolutely deserve to be exposed in this manner in my opinion. It would be some sort of cathartic justice for the person you cheated on!

    You sound fucking retarded. Whether you have cheated or not it still isn’t right no matter what circumstances. If you don’t want people posting your credit card details on the internet why would you want your nude pictures/videos on the internet? Your family, friends, co-workers and complete strangers will see your entire body. They will even slut shame you just because your pictures are on the internet AGAINST YOUR WILL. It’s degrading and embarrassing. You sound like you did this to somebody else and now you’re trying to give a reasonable excuse as to why doing shit like this is perfectly fine.

      well if you don't want pictures like this on the internet against your will, don't piss your partner/ex/whatever off to the point where they feel they have a valid reason to post them. Simple.

    SO in your mind it's only ok to seek revenge on someone who cheated? They deserve it? What if the person they cheated on and eventually ended the relationship with was the asshole?

    On the other hand- what if some bitch or bastard got you fired from a job? OR stole a great deal of money from you or did something to your family, or your business? Who defines the reasoning for revenge porn?

    Funny it all depends on if the other person knows they are being video taped or having a photo taken to change it all.
    You have a GREAT chance of claiming the person knew they were being captured on media and was ok with you uploading it online. Tons of people are on adult oriented sites, social sites and major porn sites and many never filed for consent. In today's world it's "everyday" people that are just as popular as porn stars.

    If someone was taped or photographed without knowing about it nude, undressing or having sex, that is illegal.

    The rule of thumb with online photos on websites for businesses is ALL photographed must either fill out a consent form or they must be told in advanced their picture might be taken and possibly online or on tv. Even then people can order a website or tv show to not use their image or blur them out if it's not actually in writing or on video with them allowing it.

    So, the mildest of things like getting in a shot accidently and being on a website (fully clothed) can still get that photographer or website owner in trouble, but the revenge sites it's more difficult because those sites are built up by user accounts and easy to say your pictures were stolen and someone else put them up!
