Report cat lady or leave her alone?

I don't know if I should do anything but I hate animal abuse... she has a million cats in her house, there is no way it's clean in there.. realistically probably about fifty cats at least in a two bedroom house. Should I just mind my own business? I'm not her neighbor, I just see all the cats in the yard and windows on my way to work.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • its always the same , the health dept shows up finding 4000 pounds of cat feces glued to the floor and ammonia fumes so strong a gas mask is required for entry. they take the lady to some far off FEMA camp for "decontamination" and hang a condemned property sign on the door.

  • I'd say do it but if you haven't even been in the house I wouldn't. I'd make sure 100% there's animal abuse/neglect going on before reporting because if you're wrong the poor lady will go unnecessary bullshit

  • Why not go over say hi and know for sure instead of assuming the cats are not well off. for all you know she is a foster cat person that gets funds to care for these cats. some people have services like that so the cats are not caged.

so please don't be a moron and assume what is going on with out using your words first. when you go there and the cats don't look healthy call right infront of her!

  • I think you should call animal control; they should at least go over there and check the place out. It can't be a healthy environment for 50+ cats in a small house. Plus it's too expensive to feed that many so they're probably hungry.

  • Animal hoarding is a recognised illness. If the cats are in good condition no harm will have been done.

  • cats have this fecal parasite that infects the human brain and it takes over the human and they get more cats so the parasite can infect more cats . its called Toxoplasmosis gondii after that Gondii guy in India , the one always holding a cat.

  • How do you know it's not clean in there? Those cats might be that lady's pride and joy. If the authorities find a single thing wrong they'll take the cats away, maybe give them to someone else or put them down. A single tiny thing. I've seen companion animals with homeless people and the homeless certainly couldn't give them a decent quality of life. But the homeless love them. And they sure as anything, homeless folk don't have a decent quality of life either. Who would separate a homeless guy with no other family, from his dog? Or a jobless single mum from her kids? Everyone needs someone.

    • He probably assumed this because in his experience (and mine as well) tells him that the kind of person who has so many cats is also the kind of person who keeps a filthy home. I will digress, however, as this may not be the case. Maybe she just likes taking in feral cats and gives them a clean and healthy home. ~who knows~
Also, im not sure where you live, but in the usa, since most cats go unadopted, the authorities may just euthenize them immediately. Poor cats.
Another also: where i live it is illegal to own more than 6 cats without a county or state permit, because its considered unhygenic and a possible health hazard, both to the keepers and the cats.

  • Some people care too much. They blind themselves to the situation they have created for themselves. For her and the cats you should report her. If she is taking good care of them great. If not then she will get the help she needs one way or the other.

  • Definitely report her, lots of cute cats get rescued from hoarding situations, like my own.

  • I think you are right to be concerned. You should do it.
