Religion fucking people up

I think that the idea of any religion where a (insert made up diety here) rules over you, guides you and and tells you what s right and wrong causes people to lose sight of reality. They think their special because God forgives them and your bad because you 'disobey' their bible or whatever. It's like they love feeling special like their one of the few people who have some secret to the world and every other religion that thinks the same thing is wrong. And once they die they think they will be glad they lived their life a certain way, got baptised, said certain prayers ect. Is it normal to think religion shows signs of personal mental weakness and possibly illness?

Religions are trash. people can decide their own morality. They dont need to be guided by fake religions.

Your not wrong but most people need a combination of spiritual fulfillment or they need control.

If religion were taken out of the picture people like that could be problematic for a number of reasons.

    • That makes sense. Like the people that buy religious shit lack control and direction in their life so religion gives them so guidance?

Most religious people fear death and think that their god will lead them to an amazing afterlife.

Agreed, who is to say THEIR god is the arbiter of all morality? Worse, they believe non-religious people have no sense of morality... would you really live a certain way and treat others a certain way because of a fear of higher being? We find our morals and ethics from the environment we’re raised in, what environment we currently live in, as well as whatever we read/see and interpret as right.

I dig what you're getting at, but the points you make are not the way Christianity, Catholicism, or Jewdism work.

    • I haven't met and engaged with any people from other religions much but in my experience growing up with Christians and Catholics in the family, I have found the things I described to occur. What did I say in my original post was not the way Christians or Catholics behave/judge others?

You are describing fanatical people. Will that mean then, if you have one criminal, all are criminals?

        • Take note, never in my original post or comment did I say that everyone is this way. So many people are 'kinda' religious nowadays if you know what I mean. And when people aren't very strong in their beliefs they are less likely to act or treat people in the way I described in my post. It would also be my observation the religious people in my innercicrle of family and friends are more religious than most people I see elsewhere. I totally get what your saying and I didn't want it mean this about everyone, just the more religious you are the more problematic it becomes like I said in my post.

I see what you mean, except the last bit. Only if you become fanatic is it a problem. I have had a non-believer friend, and I can not say anything against his way of life. As with everything, a worm may be in any apple.

            • Well the way I see it, most religions are way for you to jave a froced limited outlook on life. It leaves you with less descions to make about how you live your own life which I think is restricting and shows mental weakness. However, it's worth noting that the person suffering the most from you being religious is yourself, unless you one of those super judgmental people, but most of those people have mind a given up by now it seems.
