Same as accusing black men carry guns? Hipsters are a subculture, not a race. And one thing a subculture is defined by is that they're a group of like minded people. I wasn't calling hipsters all talk I was calling subcultures in general all talk. That includes hipsters but don't think I single you out. Maybe it does depend on where I'm from because that is certainly my experience with hipsters. (I'm from North East Urbantopia) Hipsters don't try to be geek yet they take style tips from the worlds most famous geek in media, Steve Urkel?

Well see I'm from the US and they're not trying to act like the sort you describe. And not religious, just spiritual. So it's not a hate crime. Haha.
I really just define a hipster as a modern day hippy from the 60s and 70s. That's where the name comes from if I'm not mistaken.
Basically there's resentment towards hipsters because of the pretension. By that I mean, the desire to be seen to like certain things, to wear certain things, over the genuine like of those things. A love of taking grainy sepia polaroids of friends so they can upload them to Facebook and show them how much fun they're having in a field wearing Raybans and high-waisted shorts, not because they're actually enjoying themselves, but because they want to look like they are, and look like arty Parisian philosopher-geeks at the same time. It's the superficiality and pretentiousness that irritates people.
My opinion of the word hipster is that it's always pejorative / derogatory, and always refers to that type of pretentious person. If you're not like that, then in my opinion you're not a hipster.
