It's an effective strawman, because most people don't think logically. The stereotype of somebody who doesn't like cops is a cartoon villian who wants to get rid of the police so he can be free to do all the crime he wants. People who don't really have any interactions with the legal system usually have a pretty high opinion of it working, and imagine people who have more experience dealing with it don't like it are "criminals"
who hate the cops for continually arresting them. Because obviously only criminals ever interact with the police.
I don't follow politics. I find that people that do tend to view everything as very black and white. Saying there are severe problems with the legal system is saying you want to completely disband all enforcement of basic laws and let everyone riot and loot and do whatever they want. The system works on their end, so therefore there's no problems with it. I had a user on here telling me I obviously support rioting because I won't support a corrupt system victimizing marginalized people in the name of public safety.
I had a couple friends crashed a car drunk and the passenger died years ago. The driver was charged with murder and given a 5-15 year sentence. Meanwhile an ex-cop around the same time ran over a disabled girl and was reported as driving erratically prior to it, he was allowed to turn himself in the next day (obviously after sobering up) and given 1-3 years for leaving the scene of an accident. This is a problem that has nothing to do with effective law enforcement and everything to do with protecting LEO's from the same consequences civilians have to face for their actions.
