    He's not a bad guy. He is a great leader who has seen his country through dangerous times, repeatedly resisted provocations to war and ignored agents provocateurs seeking to disrupt peace. He has conducted foreign policy with strength and dignity while resisting bloody foreign engagements; and repeatedly sought to temper dangerous US policy in Syria and Ukraine and with ABM systems generally, without ramping up tensions. If you find him to be a villain I bet you've never seriously listened to him speak on these matters. As to his cultural policies, watch the 2012 Al Jazeera report on Pussy Riot in full, and see if you can still stomach allying with Russia's activist gay and feminist contingents after you are finished.
