This is a perfectly normal occurrence, commonly referred to as "Deja Vu" or precognition.
Firstly though - the mind has two types of memory, short and long term. Short term memory = things that happened just recently, within a few days. Short term memory is very detailed, but your mind cannot maintain lots of information as short term memory. So things that need to be remembered long term, are transferred into long term memory, usually after a few days. Information can be stored in long term memory for years, but isn't very detailed, and degrades with time.
What causes Deja Vu is a mental blip, as it were. When your mind isn't focusing properly it accidentally stores information you receive from your senses, directly into long term memory. This creates the overwhelming sense of "having seen this before" that is Deja Vu or precognition.
