Until about 1963 was more late 50s style rock n roll like Del Shannon and Chubby Checker. 1964-1966 was the first years of the Beatles (before their psychedelic years (their "Hard day's night" and "I wanna hold your hand" style songs)) and Sonny and Cher. 1967-1969 was like you said the hippie era, and The doors and Simon and Garfunkle.

Don't even know what to call the 1964-1966 period tbh. It was different from both the early 60s and late 60s.
