Poll: which is the scariest movies from the 1970s?

Great decade for horror. The the exception of 1970 and 1977, it seems there was an iconic horror film every year! Let me know if I missed any.

Johnny Got His Gun 0
Last House on the Left 0
The Exorcist 3
Texas Chainsaw Massacre 5
Jaws 0
Salo, or the 120 days of sodom 1

Well you said 70's so it rules out my favorite by a year. The Shining. Best scary movie ever.

  • I chose The Exorcist because possession movies creep me out.
But Don't Look Now, Deep Red and Burnt Offerings are pretty scary too.
Never watched Johnny Got His Gun, how good is it?

    • It can be kinda hokey at times, but the concept alone is one of the most horrifying things imaginable.

    From your list...Halloween.

The Exorcist was not scary. My mom wouldn't let me watch it for years claiming it was so disturbing but I finally saw it and was just bored.

Last House on the Left was good but too slow.

The Omen was a cool idea but too light on gore and pretty slow.

    Alien was pretty good.

    TCM is great.

Jaws is sooooooo fucking boring. I grew up in the 80's when VHS was so new and awesome and you went to the video store and picked movies based on a picture and short description on the back of the box and the Jaws picture was the coolest thing ever but the movie was so slow and dull. Sorry. The picture did not happen in the movie :(

    April Fools...ok

    I Spit on Your Grave...ok

    Mother's Day...excellent. May be 80's I think...

I will have to think of more. I love horror.

Oh...Dawn of the Dead. Slow and pretty boring. The remake is pretty good though.

Oh duh...Carrie. I love it except the ending. Not how she kills everyone but how she pops out of the grave. Even if it's just an illusion I still find it cheesy.
