They were originally called Generation Y, but people were too excited about the new millennium coming (happens once in 1000 year), so they started giving the name early on, to the ones born towards the end of the 1900s, the post 1980s , at the end its just a "term" to describe a range of people born withing certain time frame, how accurate it is doesn't matter like with most terminologies in the world.

I some how qualify under the "Millennials", I thought they were the ones born from 2000 to the present. But all well.
