How intelligent is the average user? I am talking about compared to normal humans in terms of both smarts and also wisdom/descion making. Please vote I am curious what people think. You can also comment how you think it is, or be super offensive and drop names.

I've seen people on here that are calm, rational, and have given well thought out, intelligent advice. On the opposite end, I've seen mentally challenged people that are bitter, easily angered, or argue over small things. Overall I think the place is average though.
You mean like there are more poeple on the two extremes than you would normally see, but the average balances out?
I think that the average do, but I also think that everyone balances each other out.
I do think the overall is above average. A lot of the regulars are smart people and they ignore dumb posts, or make funny comments on them. There is a large number of rando dumb asses that come and then quickly leave though so it is really hard to define the average intelligence.
When I was a young teen, I skipped school with my brother, smoked a ton of weed & decided it would be a fantastic idea to build a giant "jump" out of snow & get my parents' car airborne ala dukes of hazzard. We ended up spending hours doing this, speeding my parents FRONT WHEEL DRIVE station wagon down our street & plowing it into a giant pile of snow, which, of fucking course, it got immediately stuck in. Then spent the rest of my day off miserably & frantically digging through...frozen water...
So...I'm retarded & that makes my fiance a dirty retard fucker.
I like to think everyone here & everywhere really is just as retarded, some more, some less, but those who think they're smart as fuck are the most retarded of all. Once you think you have nothing left to learn, then you're terminally retarded & can not be saved.

What I mean is that I don't like to think of myself as being any smarter than anyone. I've been told that I'm smart, but I've done plenty of careless & downright retarded things. Everyone has.
There are loads of stupid people in the world, but for the most part, even the dumbest out there are good at something & have something to offer. The minute you start to think of yourself as smartER than others, is the minute you close your mind & decide that those people have nothing to teach you. You lose a lot by doing that.
The people here are just people, and all people are smart in some ways & down right retarded in others. I see both stupidity & genius level shit on here, sometimes from the same users Haha.
That's nice. The OP is asking us to compare the average within the IIN community to the distribution of intelligence for the general population. I think the older people here as a group are above average and noticeably neurotic. I think the younger people are average and are being negatively influenced away from wholesomeness and good character. I do my best to suppress my gnarliness. But sometimes it leaks out to these impressionable misfits of the future.

I rather believe that there is, to put it mildly, a fair amount of neuroticism on Is It Normal, because we all here as a result of having asked Google a question that started with the same three words.
A valid observation, indeed. However, I am an exception. My google search was about unconscious cues that kill female attraction on dates. I got a Google hit about creeps vs. boyfriends at IIN. It was hilarious. In fact, reading the weird shit everybody said was better than any bad date. So, I've never bothered to leave.
I took a test online once that said I had a 145 IQ just from answering a couple questions about how happy I was with my current mattress.
Seems bout average, there are occasionally posts by people I feel are genuinely mentally challenged, but overall, everyone seems the same as others encountered in a daily basis. Im pretty low on common sense but make up for it in other (mostly useless) areas

Of course you don't know, the op is obviously asking what your impressions are on the average IIN members intelligence? It IS a bit of a silly question, but at the same time it's giving the answer to how members perceive the intelligence of the general member population of this site as a whole.
If you have been around a while and actually read the comment sections where poeple give advice, you can make an educated guess at least. Or what does the fact taht someone uses this site say about them in terms of intelligence. Do smarter people tend to enjoy this type of site more or less?
It'd be hard to say. I can easily see how people can look variety of ways on here that may not be reflective of there actual self. I for one feel like I'm a bit all over the map with how careful I am with my grammar/punctuation depending on how I'm feeling. Also sometimes Im being serious and other times Im being a complete troll and acting dumb on purpose. I suspect others are Similar.
You have 2 types of people on here. The dumb asses, an the people who think there smart.

When I see that I can't help but to think I'm dealing with a dumbass. When I see basic spelling, and grammar mistakes I naturally assume that either the individual doesn't know any better, and or neglects to proofread their stuff. Either way it's not a good sign.
After noticing the obvious spelling, and grammar stuff, look at the content itself. If the person is posting about something serious, and the tone of the post is decent I will do what I do, and try to be helpful, and understanding.
If the content is something perverted, and stupid, then it's a different story.

I don't feel qualified to assess the intelligence of the average user, but what I will say is that the Is It Normal community does posess a wealth of neuroticism. We are all here as a result of asking Google the same three words, "is it normal...".

Yeah, some posts that sound like people have a serious health condition make me wonder why they are asking on here. Like I remember one, "Iin to have always peed red?" Shit like that that is medical should not be asked. That said, a lot of other questions on here are very thought provoking in a good way!
I am very below average. I'll admit it. Actually I'm probably the dumbest one in here. I feel very good about it. I'm the one sitting in the corner rather confused by the whole scenario.
Judging by your name, it seems as if you already have your mind made up about yourself. How about having a more positive outlook and actively trying to get smarter?
I am probably about average if I'm honest. But it is hard to guage the people on here because it is hard to tell when people are being serious or not. I also think this site is unappreciated for how much you can LEARN from reading comments and posts. There are some commenters that have seen so many things, their starting to get pretty good at it.
I still haven't figured out exactly what I consider to be intelligence. So maybe that makes me a dumbass, I'm not really sure lol.
It could mean many things, nut that was intended to be up to the interpretation of the voter. I suggest you take all fascets into consideration.
This makes me think of the kids in Malcolm in the Middle. All of them are both extremely intelligent and extremely fucking dumb in a variety of ways. I think that's a well written show that makes some great comments on what intelligence really means and what really matters in life.
I think most people are in that range - some strengths and some weaknesses. I guess the people with the more obviously useful strengths are the ones that we deem the most intelligent, but what strengths are considered useful will change depending on what environment you were born into - stone age hunter gatherer, renaissance high society European woman, African slave being taken to America, far future religious cyber world dude living on a moon in the Andromeda galaxy etc.
When it comes to trying to understand the world, I find it helpful to bear in mind that 50% of the population is dumber than average, and a significant proportion of those smarter than average are also selfish, manipulative and just plain nasty people.
My impression of IIN is that the members are a generally typical random selection of people, although there aren't many people at the extreme ends of the intelligence bell curve. Few total idiots would have any interest in learning what others think of their quirks, and some won't even understand that what they do, think and feel might be unusual. Highly intelligent people wouldn't waste their time and energy here.
I feel like im smart but slow. Im able to figure out complex things and usually make good decisions and im getting wisdom as I get older. The one downside to my intelligence is it takes me longer to get going. If someone is explaining something to me I have to ask questions and get them to slow down sometimes.
If you can figure stuff out complex things, even if it takes you a while, then you're probably quite smart. Reaction times and IQ naturally drop as you age dude, so I wouldn't worry about that.
Of course the question of what exactly IQ measures continues to be debated.
I believe there's truth in the old adage about there being no fool like an old fool, but the over-confidence and lack of life-experience of the young can lead them to do some pretty fucking stupid things. I speak from experience.
Yes, hence the societal priority of giving young people quality life experience early. To that end, IIN is generally fucking up younger members which will contribute to the degeneracy of the future.

I suspect McBean means that he's uncomfortable with how people post about having the most outrageous urges and doing things that fly in the face of common sense, or are illegal, immoral, or simply unhygienic, and the Normal/Not Normal poll virtually always shows no less than 30% of IINers think it's perfectly fine. If someone doesn't understand the high ratio of trolls and other immature people here, they could take that as validation of what they're asking about.
According to general knowledge and IQ tests I'm very average, but above/below average in specific fields of study. Intelligence is subjective.
I'd definitely say the typical user is of average intelligence.
And just a random fact for you but anyone who says they have higher than average intelligence is what psychology likes to call a pseudo-intellectual and in fact usually have slightly below average intelligence.
