The humans I love are important to me. Innocent children are important to me. A member of ISIS or a serial killer is no more important than an ant to me.
Humans ARE animals. We evolved the same way animals did. We just happened to become self aware and learn how to speak. I believe all life has intrinsic value. Yes, I would choose a human over a dog (unless it was an evil human), but because I am human and they are human, and we are naturally inclined to do so. But I still believe an animal's life is indeed important. We have responsibility to be the stewards of the earth. We should take care of all the life on it, not only humans.
