I always try to avoid them and will stop if it's safe to. Out near my night job there's a lot of geese and I've had to stop and wait several times for their parade to cross the street. They walk single file like bosses, they do.
I was haunted for a while by the sound a squirrel makes when you run one over. Awful just awful.
