People judge me for liking japan, iin?

just because i like japan, people at school judge me for it. I have been told to "drop dead", "stop breathing" and to "go commit suicide" before. Its got to the point where the teachers do not care anymore. I have hardly any friends, and i sometimes wonder if i'm mental for liking another culture, i'm starting to wonder if i should take their advice...

  • I have a feeling that there might be something you're not disclosing here.

Do you, for instance, dress up like an anime character or something insane like that? If so, it might annoy some people and the really mean assholes have told you to drop dead.

For example, I love Norway but no one has ever told me to drop dead. I also love Norwegian black metal, and I bet if I put on corpsepaint, spiked shin-guards and got a pentagram tattooed on me, I'd have people making fun of me, too.

  • That is so pathetic its unbelievable! They actually told you to drop dead!?!?!

I've always liked exploring the life of other cultures. Not literally, but in books, and on tv maybe. I always like to watch the movies they have on youtube with the english subtitles. I'm actually a little embarrassed admitting that, but I just started getting into that sometime over last year during my spare time. It was late at night, and I was bored, I happened to be on youtube so I was like what the heck, and I ended up really enjoying a few of the korean dramas. Maybe I just need to get a life, heh heh! I don't know, but I like them. I asked one of my coworkers if they've ever watched one of them before, and she was like, "What? No.....(pause)<my name> you are so weird sometimes....." I was so embarrassed I even mentioned it to her. Lmao!

Anyway, you probably shouldn't care what those people say. If you like it, whatever. Maybe you could take a class to learn the language.

  • Do you have japanese ancestry? If not maybe people are making fun of you because you are a japanese wannabe or obsessed.Nothing wrong with being interested in the culture though. Same reason people make fun of wiggers.

  • Are you from China or Korea?

  • Yes I agree with some over here. Understood you like Japanese culture. But I think you dress like an anime, or in maid outfits and like. That makes other people develop a repulsive attitude towards you. They might dress like their favorite stars but not many people realize that. And if you dress like an anime or something that is popular in Japan, people notice because there is a culture shock. You can dress occasionally like that but don't make it your daily year.

Second, are you sure you like Japanese culture as a whole? Or are you only attracted to anime and manga?

If you genuinely like Japanese culture and you don't dress like an anime, and still your classmates are mean, then you needn't worry. They are narrow minded.

Well you need to have friends no? So discover other interests and try to get involved. Be patient. It might be difficult.

  • its okay to like another culture. just not be absolutely obsessed with it. but you dont sound like that, so the people at your school are too obsessed with jersey shore- or there is such a thing as being TOO patriotic.

  • I like Japanese culture :) lol people use to say I wanted to be Asian in jr high to hurt my feelings. But it never really got to me. I think the culture is just too interesting to pass up and now I'm really also into Korean entertainment too. I've taken Japanese before (but Im horrible at it lol) and now I'm even picking up on little korean phrases. I don't find anything weird about finding other cultures interesting.

  • There's nothing wrong with being interested in different cultures. I have some friends in foreign countries, and I'm interested to hear about their culture, and vice versa. Randomly, I love food from Japan..ever eat at Japanese Steakhouse? :)

  • geez, its a perfect normal. remember the saying that the grass is always greener on the other side? guess it could be apply in culture too.
like me, i always admire other's country culture, and thoughts that its very cool.
include japan. oh yes, i was an otaku. lol.
but now my country is actually "crazy" about korea. lol.
just find some group with similar interest and you'll be fine. and have you done something at school that makes your friends know you're crazy about japan?

  • Why would someone tell you to "commit suicide" for liking Japan? Doesn't make any sense...

  • It's a fascinating culture. I don't see what you're doing wrong by showing an interest. But if the people around you are really so small-minded, then maybe you shouldn't share your interest with them and instead find like-minded people.

My boss just got back from Japan and he said that, although he was prepared for the culture being very different, he was stunned at just how different and said you can't begin to imagine it until you go. I hope you get to travel there too one day. And me, actually, although it'd be difficult for me to get there.

  • I think it would be for the best if you just cut out your testicles and shove them up your nose and put duct tape over your mouth.
