People inform me about their bowels because i am a nursing assistant

I work as a nurses assistant and there are too many patients who tell me all about their bowel issues. I find that rather sick..... It is probably because they think that just because I have a nasty job means that I don't mind hearing about their nasty bowel problems. But in reality, it is the other way around.

Is It Normal?

  • This story is absolutely hilarious. So hilarious I'm starting to freeze up. I realize this is frustrating as hell to you (and can empathize), but your expression of your frustration just adds to the amusement.

  • What if their poop is their problem though? Is this at work that they are telling you? I mean if you didn't like let's say, broken arms, you can't get mad at a person that comes in with a broken arm and say, "I don't want to hear about that", or be like, "I didn't ask about your broken arm so don't tell me about it". Just hit them all with shovels before they speak. It'll solve your problems.

    • hahahahahaha very funny.........ummm nooooo I am not going to hit people with shovels before they speak because doing that doesn't solve anything. Ironically, for every patient I have taken care of with bowel problems, I have dealt with a patient who has a broken arm. Yet, I am seldomly informed about the broken arm and I am always informed with too much info about someone's bowel problems or gas issues. So explain that....... Plus, it is not just patients who tell me every nasty detail about their g.i. issues, it is also friends and relatives who just assume that because I am a shit cleaner upper that I want to hear about their foul smelling diahrrea. Oh and by the way, once a patient knows that I am the nursing assistant they treat me like some incompetent person even though I have been nothing but nice to them. It is not like I can assess their bowel issues because in their eyes I am a stupid person. Basically what they are telling me is they don't respect me enough to spare me of the horrible details about thier incontinence but yet I am supposed to listen to them because I am worthless, that is in the patient's eyes. It is not fair or right. They never talk about that stuff to the nurses, because nurses are too good for horror stories. Don't make me out to be the villain when all I want is a little respect.

        • Actually, I am much happier with my current job, I recently made a career change, but I will NEVER become an RN because unlike most nurses, I don't have cold ice running through my veins as far as your poop smelling like eggs & sulfa, IT'S POOP!!! What do u expect?????

    • ummm........... yeah............ but that doesn't mean that nurses and nursing assistants don't have their limits. Sure they, including myself, are more tolerable of sh*t than someone who is not a nurse or nurse's aide. I am willing to clean up sh*t and tolerate it, but I am NOT willing to listen to every nasty detail of some hypochondriac's so-called bowel problems. Especially when I didn't ask that person to begin with. It is as if you are sitting next to a psychologist on an airplane and then you decide to tell this psychologist your entire life story. VERY INAPPROPRIATE!!!!!!!!

  • I had a tooth ache do to my sinuses so I took like two different kinds of pain pills....not sinus pills.. So I got a slowed bowl and I had never gotten it before so I didn't know what to do. Like it would hurt really bad when I got hungry. I had to go on a raw food diet for like a day and a half.

    • like I said earlier, just because I chose that job does not mean that I want to hear about other people's bowel problems. You know, nursing assistants have their limits too.
