People don't proofread/edit their txts/posts/reviews etc?

Furthermore, I heard via a study people are turned off by those who proofread and edit their texts. Honestly, in this social media world... Our language is changing faster then it ever has. I much prefer reading comments and texts that are at least properly syntaxed. Lower case, upper case: pluss period, comma, question mark and others in the right places. It is extremely hard to understand what the writer is intending when there is no punctuation at all. ***edited this 5 times*** I struggle with the English language but respect my fellow mates to spend the extra couple minutes to proofread and edit.

Don't care at all. 1
Care a lot that in this age we need to be educated to proofread our social media/texts. 3
Prefer people to have correct punctuation. 8
Just the way social media is. 0

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Shameless grammar nazi here. Ok, I don't nitpick over literally every detail if it's readable overall, but I notice.

If I know the person is a native-English speaker, I judge the shit out of them for some basic mistakes. We're not five, you have no excuse to be getting "your" and "you're" mixed up, or "there", "their" and "they're" either.

    ... "should of" studied harder.

That's before I even get onto the run-along sentences. Why is your sentence a whole paragraph long, without even any commas to break it up? I'm not reading that.

Agreed. In high school I didn't study enough! That issue should be fixed. Please feel free to pick it apart. Glad you had the balls to tell me that it was a runon sentence!! Go figure I edited it a couple times even. I knew I should of ate something first!

Glad to have a fellow grammar Nazi. Btw, valid point about native English speakers!!

Sorry, that "you" was a figurative "you" in my comment about run-on sentences. There weren't any in your post.

There was just a misspelling and improper use of punctuation. I am only saying that because of the topic. I sometimes care, but I rarely bother being a stickler for it, as my own posts are repleat with errors due to my own ignorance, or difficulty typing on my phone.

The only one that will stop me from reading is a massive, single paragraph.

OK, you sort of asked for it: last sentence of first paragraph should read "I knew I should have eaten something first".

The posts I can't be bothered reading are the "wall of words" ones with great long sentences with no punctuation at all.

  • Someone needs to invent predictive punctuation.
Sentence structure is beyond hope and run-on sentences are pandemic.
Blame “smartphones”, predictive text, and spellcheck.

It would be nice!!! Predictive text does help me with spelling. I agree with modern technologies... It is wonderful when used properly. Unfortunately many folks rely on it and forget many principles of the English language in their commenting and posting. I understand texts can have some jargon that's lazy and incorrect for quick response purposes. Mainly they know each other.

Any topic that requires deeper thought; I personally believe it's integral for all to give it their best effort to write properly. The best way to communicate with ease is reading well written communication and writing with practice properly. I believe this social media is a killer of our syntax rules. As you so well put Styrofoam.

In conclusion. This day and age creates more lazy writing that has succumbed to lots of swearing. We end up having people whom want their thoughts to come across without caring about how it reads. Most people forget that depending on where the punctuation mark is can change the meaning.
      Example:
      Lets eat grandpa.
      Lets eat, grandpa.
Many times we don't know who the posting person is. Most of the time we misunderstand them completely.
