There are people who decide to make the argument that the minimum wage isn't enough to get over the poverty line for a four-person family, even though paying for an entire family is not even close to the intention of the minimum wage. They also suggest that the "living wage" is way above minimum wage, but the "living wage" includes costs like healthcare, transportation, entertainment, and child care, none of which are required for living.
