People cancelling celebrities is stupid

The whole thing with cancel culture having become a thing is so stupid to me. Like someone public makes ONE mistake and they have to get cancelled forever, usually because they have somehow pissed of the extreme leftists.
I am towards the left myself politically but I cannot agree with the extreme ones who makes the tiniest of things "cultural appropiation" such as god fobid you wear a hairstyle that was invented by black people or you'll get cancelled for life with no way of ever redeeming yourself. What the fuck is wrong with those people? Or accidently saying something which could be interpreted as racist, homophobic or sexist. It must be fucking exhausting to be a public person in this day and age. People are absolutely insane.

Half the people on this site would have been cancelled by now if we had some sort of audience. Maybe I would have been?

I understood why people wanted to be famous in the 2000s and earlier when the perks could sometimes outweigh the costs but, as you say, these days it would be a state of constant paranoia that you would be caught saying the wrong thing. Celebrity privacy is basically non-existent and the behavioural standards are higher than ever.

The only times I agree with cancelling celebrities is when they have obviously assaulted or raped someone. Even then I think it’s ok to separate art from artist and continue to enjoy their work so long as you don’t pay for it.

I find that using the standards of today and retrospectively judging others from the past is just a dick move.

Good example. Most of the womens suffragettes were racist. Does that diminish their involvement with helping women gain the right vote? To the far left, it is.

      Cancel cancel culture.

There was a celebrity. I forget who. He said that he doesn't have a Twitter account because he drinks.

I'm hoping it's just a knee jerk reaction to the rise of social media, which is where a lot of these offended feelings get stirred up and shared around, and that we will eventually all calm down and learn to live with the internet responsibly. I might be naive.

What happened where every single site and company in the United states is running the black lives matter banner?

I can tell you straight up its not because of them being genuinely kind. Best case scenario for them is that it's the best marketing ploy. Worst case is that they are doing it so they dont get slandered by the far left into being boycotted by people who perfer to smell their own farts.

This may come as a shock to you, but it’s not difficult to not sound like a racist, sexist homophobe. At all. It’s actually REALLY easy. It’s even easier to offer a genuine apology if one accidentally says or does something that appears to be racist, sexist, or homophobic. It’s really, REALLY easy. The only catch is you have to actually NOT be a racist, sexist homophobe. The only people who find it “exhausting” to not be those things are people who actually are those things.

Also, you must be living under the biggest fucking rock on the planet if you think it’s the left that cancels people. Go search Trump’s twitter feed for all the boycotts he’s called for, or listen to all his speeches for the people he’s called to be fired, not to mention the people who he’s actually fired.

You know how assholes came up with the term “political correctness” because they didn’t like being called out for being pieces of shit? “Cancel culture” is their new favorite buzzword. Aside from the obvious hypocrisy - the right wingers who decry it are the same people who’ve tried to boycott Nike, TikTok, Macy’s, Apple, Harley Davidson, Starbucks, etc, not to mention Colin Kaepernick, blackballed from the NFL at the behest of Dear Leader because he opposes police brutality without a peep about “cancel culture” from the people defending racists and sexists to their grave - it’s also every bit the moronic strawman I’m sure you would guess it is. There’s supposedly all these people being canceled for life for one innocent mistake, yet not a single person can come up with a single example of that ever actually happening. Go figure.

You're missing the point, because more often than not the people getting offended are actively looking for something to be offended about. That's the root of the problem.

They get offended by something that isn't even offensive and then call for cancellation.
