Paralyzed in my dreams

I've had these same dreams over the years where I'm faced down on a bed in a all white room. The room itself isn't scary. Quite natural, breezy, light and calming. I can remember the details of the bedspread pattern and how the windows were open and sheer curtains were flowing to the breese but then I realize I can't move my body. I feel this heaviness, like I'm paralyzed and begin to try and yell for help but my mouth seems forced shut to where I can't open it to scream! I can't lift my arms or head. I moan for help in fear...help me help me and finally wake up. Does anyone know what this might mean? Has anyone had this kind of dream?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

You're experiencing a sleep paralysis. Some people even saw demons staring at them or old hags sitting in their chest. Not trying to scare u or anything ur dream sounds normal but I suggest u drink plenty of water before sleeping and pray,,!

Thank goodness the demons and hags haven't appeared! I'll definitely up my water intake and pray some more. Thank you.

This may or may not be sleep paralysis. Is it real or just a dream.

However, if it is sleep paralysis - focus really hard on moving a finger or a toe - even the little finger or toe. If you do that you will get to the point where you can move that finger or toe; and all the sudden the brain "reconnects" to active control of the body in a flash.

Sleep paralysis is normal when you enter stage 4 "Rem" sleep. It prevents you from thrashing around in bed and all kinds of physical activities that your brain is dreaming about (breathing, heart beat, digestion, etc is not affected and remain active).

When the dream ends the brain is supposed to auto-disengage the paralysis needed to keep your body safe during dreams. Sometimes it does not - and then a person mentally notices and experiences the "sleep paralysis."

Many people go through this as teenagers or young adults; and outgrow it. In some people it does not develop until later - and never really goes away. I have personally learned how to move my fingers and toes right away and have not trained myself to manually kick myself out of it - so that it's only a brief episode now when it happens.

I wish you the best with this.

Interesting. When it happens I tend to panic and begin moaning for help while my lips are hard shut.
I'm gonna try to see if I can do what your saying while trying to remain calm in knowing its a dream.
It doesn't happen often...thank goodness. I thought it may come from years of stress working for my family and not being able to speak my mind without severe consequences. As if my body was reliving the struggle of being shut down from being heard.
Thank you so much for your insight.

      Best wishes to you.

This sounds like sleep paralysis I get it when I’m stressed out. It’s nothing to worry about & it’s nothing dangerous or life threatening. It’s extremely scary feels like someone is pinning you down to the bed. It’s supposed to have something to do with the paranormal. Google it you’ll find out much more information about on there. Hope you’re ok & try not to worry ❤️❤️❤️

I can't tell what it means but hardly walk nor run in my dreams especially when I'm being chased by someone. And I've heard the same from other people.

If it is sleep paralysis then this may not be a bad thing. I used to be scared during sleep paralysis and try very hard to wake up from it but now I try to accept it and now it can lead to very vivid/conscious dreams - or "out of body experiences". There is a lot on the internet about it.

    Maybe you're dreaming about death?

Hmmm...maybe but I'm not feeling like death is going to occur, just more like being held down where I can't move.
