Parallel parking, what do you think?
So everyone has parallel parked, and everyone has a definite view about it. What is yours?

I love parallel parking, but I also have a Mini Cooper. I think the joy comes from finding tiny spots and being able to park in spots other people can't park in!
I love the challenge of manuvering into position. It feels oddly satisfying. It was not fun back when I was borrowing my parents mini van tho....
I love it, and parallel park whenever I can. Often, it's the only geometry I get to do all day.
I did it a few times as practice when I had my permit and then once to pass my actual test and now I don’t do it. I’ve never gotten in a situation where I really need to.
But it’s been a while I feel like if I need to again this will be me:

I've only had to parallel park my own cars a few times. In most cases it's parking in my garage, my spot at work, my parents garage, all safe places that require no special maneuvering.
Tho I daily parallel park my company car, cause it doesn't have a garage, so I park on the side of the street.
A better, real-life video is this:

It took the driver 13 minutes to get into the (generous-sized) space, and he/she only managed with the assistance of someone standing by the car and giving directions on how to turn the wheel.
I don't mind parallel parking. I do it daily in my company car. It's easy to do and I do like the challenge of it, especially in a bigger vehicle. Our van at the dealership is a Mercedes sprinter, extra long version and is fun to parallel park.
I also drive a bus on Saturdays as a weekend job. Tho I am yet to find a gap big enough en route to the bus depot after my last stop to try parallel parking my bus XD
Tho I very rarely parallel park my own cars, cause I'm worried other drivers might scratch my car.
You only need to be shown how to do it properly once and then you're all set...Right? I'm a pretty average driver and I've never had a problem with it. I think people who struggle with it had bad teachers.
I was terrible at it (flunked that portion of class) until I had a street-parking-only apartment. I got better with experience. Having a compact car definitely helped with the learning process.
I think you need to be taught to concentrate on the position of your rear curbside wheel at all times. Some people just don't understand until they try the parking procedure by pushing a shopping cart backwards in a car park.
Parallel parking is pain in the ass, but what can you do if that's all that is available.
I only learned it to pass my driver's test. After that I just never needed to do it since I park in my driveway.
Unrelated but this post makes feel old. I got my license back in 2009. I played hookey from Target(my job) just to take that test. It feels like yesterday but seems long ago at the same time. XD
