Pain medication and weed

I have a pinched nerve in my back and my doctor prescribed percoset for the pain. I told him in my initial appt. that I smoked weed. That was about 4 years ago. He now tells me he can no longer prescribe percoset because I smoke weed, but knew all along that I had been. Is this normal? I'm still in extreme disconfort. HELP!!!!!

He's looking for an excuse to withhold valuable medication from you. The painkiller hoarding war has begun...

Does he know you no lomger smoke? Im not sure about this, but percoset might cause an adverse reaction when used with weed. Either that, or your doctor might think youre trying To get them just to get high. It happens thogh. Maybe go to a different doctor. If you dont smoke weed anymore, you probably shouldent have any problems.

First off, never tell your doctor you smoke unless you deem it absolutely necessary because although there is a confidentially agreement between doctor and patient, you never know when your medical records could be used in a legal course later on in life. Second off, are you leaving anything out?

I have osteo-arthritis in my spine and legs, and the pain can be incredible; the doctor gives me painkillers but to be honest, weed helps far more than his stuff does with fewer side effects. If I were you I'd keep on toking and go see an acupuncturist - a friend of mine had a trapped nerve in his back and the physio couldn't shift it in 6 months, but acupuncture relaxed him enough to get rid of it in three weeks.

listen bro screw percoset...in fact screw all opiate pain killers, their far too addictive and cause more harm than good. right now your best tonic might be some nor cal chronic. Seriously weed is way less addictive and has no harmful side affects...plus its fun as hell!

never tell them you smoke weed; they think it's drug abuse. Shut the fuck up and take the perc.

  • i just read that percocet is actually oxycontin with a tylenol, so i have only taken that once

i'm used to lortabs and i know oxycontin is a lot stronger, i want to try some of that stuff

it's all opiates which is what heroin is, i think the potency goes like this

    vicodin < oxycontin < heroine < morphine

you should ask your doctor to give you a shot of a muscle relaxer. i had muscle problems too and a few days i was fine

  • i think percoset is the same thing as lortabs and vicoden, when the doctor prescribed it to me a few months ago it was my first time taking it and it made me feel really good, now i'm almost out of my 40 tabs and i've taken one a day, now i need to buy them from a drugdealer because i'm too addicted

    • but don't bother with a drug dealer. just do what this poster has done, i.e. go to a doctor for a "pinched nerve" for the next 4 years.

      • i think the doctor will see through it because i'm a bad liar, and i'd feel really dumb if he was like "no, you just want to get high, get out of here"

        • just wash the makeup off your face and cut your hair (in other words don't look like an emo doosh-bag) before you go to the doctor.

and tell the doctor your a stock broker. then you'll have no problem. You're all set to be drug addict for life.

    • Most drugs have a downside, psychologically. like pot can make you paranoid, alcohol can make you sad, LSD can make you psychotic, etc.

but painkillers almost always make you feel really good. that's why you have to be really careful with em.

  • it seems like there is something missing from this story.

you are probably addicted to perc at this point. I took perc once for a week due to an injury and man, that stuff makes you feel really really good. I cant imagine being on it for 4 years and not being addicted to it.

The biggest reason Doctors dont want to pescribe opiets Ie oxicontin oxicodone perks they are all synthetic heroin. The government has cracked down on doctors who over perscribe thease med's. For years the doctors would perscribe codine as in T-3's Tylonol #3 or 4 and then they would go to perks and then if you are taking to many perks the next step is oxicontin. Perks are 5mg oxi codone and 350mg of tylenol. So if you are taking upwords of 8 perks a day then it is better for you to take oxicontin. Oxicontin is a long lasting drug unlike perks thats why they go to the oxi's because it is safer for your body to take say 2 20mg a day of oxicontin rather than taking the equivelent of perks. If you are taking 40mg of oxi a day that is the same as 8 perks less the tylenol and thats why they have to go to oxi because if you requier like me 240mg of oxicontin per day at 80mg 3x a day I would have to take 48 perks a day and that much tylenol would kill you very fast. The tylonol is worse for your body than the oxicontin however it is very addictive and if you do not have the pain to use up the oxicontin it is very hard to stop once you start. It works on your pleasure center in your brain to combat the pain that your brain registers, so if you don't need it dont take it becaue you get addicted and when your doctor sees you are addicted to oxi's you get cut off and once it has you and you can't afford 40$ a pill then you WILL end up shooting it in your arm to get the high you had when taking it as a pill. Those are the guys you see on the show intervention. I have 3 kids and they all know why I have to take thease pills but they don't change me like they will someone who is totaly addicted to them . I have gone without my pills for a day without withdrawl so that tells my DR. my pain is bad enough to requier the amouynt I take them do to a spinal coard ingury. I would just say this to you younger people dont think you can handle it because I have never met any one who took any drug so they could get addicted. It always happens the same way I took them for fun and then I couldent stop so dont start. I hope I gave you guy's some of the answers you were looking for so please don't take this drug if you can do without it for pain do so because the latest statistics say that perscripion drugs will kill more young people than any other way. It is the curse of this short century.
