Your pubic hair should be exactly as you want it to be, not as "most guys" want it to be. If you are hairy, think of it as a blank canvas. Leave it as it is, or trim it shorter, shape it at the sides, or shave it completely. Whatever you do, it will grow back. Have some fun with it.
If your guy doesn't like your current style, talk about it and see what you might both like. Then give it a try.
