Someone told me that old people drive slow because in their day the fastest speed a car could go was 40 miles per hour. I dunno if that's true or not. XD
suspension geometry hasnt changed too much but theres been advances and cars are just as heavy now as they were then
the big advances are in brake systems and shock absorbers passenger safety systems and also another 50 yearsa r&d plus computer aided design & simulation

That's what ive heard too, it's more that the cars in them days would be less safe at high speeds
