  • Why hatred for baby boomers? Probably your parents or grandparents were/are, right?

I'm having a little bet with myself on what your response will be to justify your hatred for an entire generation of your forebears........ I'll let you know later if I'm right and you'll just have to trust me.

    • Because people like to make illinformed generalisations about entire generations of people based off something they read on the internet, or how their young spoilt niece acts, or how their granny's golf buddy dresses.

People are individuals and influenced by infinite numbers of things, and it irritates me no end when people think they know something about a huge chunk of the population across the world based purely off the year that they were born. It's moronic.

      • It's not moronic to generalize, it's a defense mechanism that serves humans well.

Not all spiders and snakes are poisonous but I am not going to play around with any of them.

On the contrary to your statement, it's moronic not to generalize and walk around with your head in the clouds.

        • We're not talking about things that kill you here, that's not a good comparison. We're talking about making assumptions about people's personality and life choices based on their age, which are so often wrong. I think it's an ignorant thing to do but you're very welcome to do so if you wish.

          • It's the same base instinct to categorize, make assumptions and generalize. It's an innate human quality and it has a purpose.

            • If you think it's a good thing to pre-judge people negatively based on characteristics that they have no control over, such as the year they were born, then I'm not interested in continuing this discussion. Have a good day

    • I've always liked older people but boomers are the epitome of entitled greed.

      • What bullshit. I was born in 1946, live in private rental which takes more than half of my pension and survive financially with casual work as a phone sex worker.

I drive an old car which a friend gave me the money to buy, rarely buy new clothing and eat as many meals as possible at local foodbank type functions.

Greed? Entitled? I repeat, what bullshit.

As for lazily labelling an entire generation with your ill-informed bigotry, it's not my generation which has to have the latest smart phone, the latest tattoo and body piercing and takes all the public benefits established by older people's taxes.

        I repeat, BULLSHIT

        • I have a $20 cell phone. There are always exceptions. I'm not getting into a big argument with you but the boomers are the reason consumerist societies exist today.

          • Close, but no cigar. Television is the reason. Boomers were the first television generation. You are not far off.
