  • I didn't have a good answer yesterday but I do have a great answer from this morning alone.

First was The Monks (a band of American soldiers based in Germany in the sixties who were so Anglophilic they used to be named after a small British seaside town). Complete cult band for a lot of music-heads.

Second was Milla Jovovic (yes, the actress) singing a song in Ukrainian that I know so well I can sing along to it despite not really knowing what the words mean.

Then it was the beautifully surreal Half Man Half Biscuit (that non-English people just won't understand at all). From the album CSI:Ambleside, I listened to joyous numbers such as "Bad Losers On Yahoo! Chess", "Took Problem Chimp to Ideal Home Show", and the frankly wonderful "National Shite Day".

Then I listened to the acid dub / blunted beats / Hollywood cinematic "Trout" by Monk & Canatella.

Then Public Enemy's "Harder Thank You Think", then Beethoven's 3rd Symphony (The Eroica), and then a slowed-down jazz version of California Dreaming.

P.S. If anyone is ever interested in knowing what it feels like to be English and northern, look up the lyrics to National Shite Day. If the north ever splits from the south, then *that* is our new national anthem.
