yeah its normal, but you should try to take her feelings into consideration as well. if you two were very close she probably still wants to depend on you for emotional support, or at least as a real friend she can talk to and trust.
my last bf and i were together for a year and when i finally did break up with him it was because i just felt we would make better friends then lovers. i was so afraid that if i broke his heart he would want nothing to do with me, but he took the break up like a man and still treats me as sweetly as ever. even tho i have a new bf now he and i still talk on the phone, text, facebook, and count on each other for advice and friendship.
we know each other so well, why throw away a friendship just because a relationship cant work?
