I had a psychology professor say to my lecture class once that if we were only having sex under the influence, we weren't ready for the responsibility of having sex.
That being said, I understand where you are coming from. For over seven years I didn't have sex without being drunk or on drugs. I realize now that it was a way of justifying what I was doing; if other people judged me for having sex with someone, I could just blame it on being f'ed up.
So while I totally think that it is "normal" I think you should take a look at whether or not it is actually your interest level that increases when you are intoxicated or if it is your inhabitions that are lowered so you don't have to face insecurity. Trust me...when the right person comes along, being completely lucid and totally in control and making decisions because you WANT to...it makes the sex OUT OF THIS WORLD amazing.
