Sometimes, things have to improve on their own, and you do whatever you need to do at the time. I've had occasions where I dreaded, or even planned on avoiding a family function due to not wanting to deal with several of them, however, since get along so well with my hot older sister, who alone gets me to go, end up attending. And mostly associate, attach myself to her all day. She even admits, if I didn't want to go to whatever "I can get you to go".
We have a shared thing/fetish for her long, sexy nails, and both enjoy it. Few years ago, one of the kid's boring-ass recitals was going on, and I really didn't want to go. Wasn't up for the recital, or hearing the same, closed-minded, critical opinions on everything from a few others. Older sister promised to sit next to me (to separate me from them), and "we'd have fun", meaning, indulge in our thing. We did, the entire time. If not for that, and her, I'd have found an excuse to bail out on the recital.
Just let things flow as they go. Time will, or should, improve it.
