Nose bleeds from heaters

Is it normal to get nose bleeds from electric baseboard heaters being on? I get like this every morning. I hate electric heat with a passion. My hubby likes it on, though I would rather leave it off. So is it normal to get nose bleeds from electric heat?

I meant to say the nasal passages are really dry

Yea its because the mucous membranes in your nasal passages are really and the capillaries (small blood vessels) break and cause bleeds. Cool mist vaporizer and saline nasal spray should help. Try claritin or another antihistamine in addition if that doesnt stop it.

yeah the heaters dry out the air in the room, which for some odd reason that I'm not totally understanding, leads to nose bleeds. I guess it dries up the mucus that's there to protect everything...

  • Get a humidifier. The air is dry from the heat & will cause eyes to itch & nose bleeds. You can by a cheap humidex measure to check. But i bet that is it, and humidifiers aren't expensive.

The quality of air is much better with proper humidity levels. (Vital for musical instruments too).

  • Odd how I have a similar problem. My face gets burned pretty badly from these heaters. I was on a trip to Tacoma, Washinton with my two Cambodian friends (One of them was the Asian/Black hybrid I talked about before) and we were going to a festival.

Well, the trip is a three hour drive and my face was completely burnt for that whole trip. I looked rediculous. My problem is a little different but the same idea, I understand and I would say it is normal.

Ah, I know what you mean. I had to drive home tonight from the city, and he wanted the heat on. It was in my face, and I could feel it BURNING!! My eyes hurt. Maybe we're more sensitive to the heat?

If you're getting nosebleeds that easily, you should get it checked out by a doctor to see why there's a weakness there. Ugh...I really don't like talkign about nosebleeds...sorry. Hope it gets better because nosebleeds aren't the nicest thing to get first thing in the morning.

Thanks! Yeah my doc put me on some nasal spray. It helps, but I still get a little blood in the morning. My hubby is going away for a few weeks in the new year, so I'm looking forward to not having the heat on, lol. We'll see if my nose bleeds go away then...

Goodness, what ARE the heaters exactly? I can't say that I've heard of them. They don't sound very people friendly to me! :/

Is there no other way for you to have heat? These heaters sound evil lol. Can't be great for your health.

Reminds me of things like the chemicals we use to clean stuff, pesticides and phone poles and things like that - all those everyday fixtures in our lives that do us harm.

The heaters in our house are electric baseboard heaters... evil little bastards, lol. And the heaters in the truck just seem really high powered, lol. I'd love to have a wood stove, but it would be a pain in the butt to install and then we'd have to buy wood, clean it up, etc. Maybe I should just move south, lol...
