Normal to sleep 11-12 hours, only on work days?

I work in IT as a consultant, have been doing this for the last 7 years. I'm struggling to keep up these days, constantly inundated with difficult work, and I find myself sleeping upwards of 11 hours, sometimes more, if I don't set an alarm for the morning. However, this issue subsides after about a week of vacation, after which I return to an 8-hour cycle. The problem quickly worsens again when I go back to work. Is this normal? Or should I find a new job?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Normal I would say. You're stressed and use your brain a lot at work so of course you would sleep longer. Don't worry about it just get the sleep you need. If you find it too stressful talk to your superior about your workload or look for another job.

Not normal. You could have CFS.

Thanks. Last time I had a blood test, everything was normal. "You're healthy as a horse" - so why do I feel so tired? But, it's only when I'm working, and IT is basically hell, so...

I think you summed it up when you said working in IT is Hell.

Save lots of money, and then retire.
