Normal or not?

Is it normal to get emotionally attached to your pets to the point when they die you get depressed and feel like it was a family member that passed and feed like there's an emptyness left over,

Is It Normal?

  • I certainly think it's normal, but I have a Siamese cat, and he is my heart.

  • Never felt anything like that, but I am sure others have. I'll say normal.

  • Yeah!! Ugh I'm gonna die so hard inside when my cat Goobler bites the dust. I've even looked into ways to have her put down at home because I'm so terrified of having her suffer or be scared. Hopefully she'll go all snuggled up, but I'm still gonna cry for months

    • You should be able to do that. Where I come from it's quite normal for the vet to come over to your house to do it, for a small extra fee.

      • Thank you so much! I looked into it & it can be arranged when the time comes. Doing it that way will be so much better.

        • Glad I could help, although I'm really sorry to hear that you needed to know about it. It's hard losing a pet. I can't imagine what I'll be like when the time comes for my cat. She's my little shadow.

          • Thanks & it's so nice to have IIN'ers like you around...always love your comments

I have a few years left with her, but she's a particularly special pet. She was abused & about to be put down & I snatched her up whilst volunteering at a shelter. Took me forever to get her to trust me & now she's the most loving & affectionate pet I've ever had. Saw me through some hard times.

Anywho, as tough as it is to lose a pet, I'd rather go through the loss than die on them & leave them confused & alone. I'm sure you gave your little kitty a great life. Just remember that when it's time.

Lordy, I'm done thinking about dead pets for the day. Seen any good movies lately?

            • Dead pets depresses me so much. I think people don't realise the huge impact it can have when a pet dies. They are part of the family. But you have to talk about these things and show solidarity when people need it.

I haven't seen any good movies in a very long time... My kids are still obsessed with Zootopia though, that was really good! You?

  • Animals are better people, then most people Ive known.
    So, totally normal.

  • Yes, normal. I felt quietly sad for a couple of days after I released my goldfish into the wild. The poor guy had grown to be too big for his tank. I sort of missed the way he swam up to the glass and begged for food whenever he saw me.

    • Good for you. Goldfish abuse is a huge problem. People sadly don't think of them as real pets.

      • Well, I hope the little guy is adjusting to his new home. *Sigh* Eventually, a big bad nasty fish will eat him for dinner, I suppose.

        • Not only "the big nasty fish" but other animals like birds or small mammals that like fish.... hell even some insects go fish.

          • I agree. It's a fish eat fish world. Suppose you could fill up your scuba tank, get out the spear gun, and go fish hunting.
